We currently support a mechanism where using the API you can declare memory blocks and then reference those memory blocks in commands. This doesn't allow you to write to those memory blocks. I don't propose to extend this behaviour for new functionality as it uses "gfx" string commands. Instead I plan to add Cmiss_texture_get (and set) _formatted_image_data (or better name if I come up with one).
